Bunbury Branch has several amazing members that always can be relied on to help support other members and the club at any time. Our choices were hard to make and therefore, the members of the Bunbury Branch would like to nominate the following membersfor the TELEMACHUS MEDAL. Both of these members have managed to stand out over the others, due to their commitment and perseverance. Both have supported the Ulysses Club (Inc.) in their fundraising efforts for the club.

Nomination 1:      DAVE HAZELL Member # 20055

Dave Hazell has been a member of the Ulysses Group since 2000, and during this time Dave has been the organizer for the Busselton Full Ironman and Half Iron Man Competitions since its inception eight years ago. The Half Ironman event is held in May and the Full Iron Man event every December and Dave has diligently been the coordinatorfor supplying the motorcycles for the Officials and Media for every one of these events (20 motor bikes for the Half Iron Man and 40 motor bikes for theFull Iron Man). Dave liaised with the Organizers and with our club members from the Bunbury, Warnbro Sound and Armadale Branches to attend. David provided accommodation for some of the Perth members who assist with the Iron Man events to save individuals extra costs that may be incurred. The Ironman Events are the major fundraiser for the Bunbury Branch, which allows us to make large donations at the end of each year to the UCARF and without David’s support it would be difficult for Bunbury Branch to raise funds for UCARF.

An additional Ironman Event was run in Mandurah on the 21 October 2012, which the WarnbroSound Branch requested members from Bunbury to attend. Dave Hazell assisted by Dave Macpherson rallied all our volunteers to help out and arranged for 15 motorbikesto travel to Mandurah to assist.

DaveMacpherson has been a member of the Ulysses Group since 2001, and during thistime he has been a major support to our Club ever since. Dave has been involved with the organization of the Ironman Competitions, along with Dave Hazell, forthe past 3 years.

Dave’s commitment to our branch is unwavering in he always attends all branch rides and events (riding 54km each way from Busselton to Bunbury). Ill health has plagued him for the past year, but he never failed to make the rides and meetings, even in the worst weather. Dave is a consistent “Tail End Charlie” and his commitment to the Club is to be commended.

Dave is also an avid supporter of the Black Dog Ride and usually attends the start of the ride, usually the Perth to Kalgoorlie leg, although he has completed a ride further than that distance.

Any organized event within the Group will have Dave amongst the “Quiet Achievers”and giving moral and physical support to all the members.

Both David Hazell and Dave MacPherson’s commitment to this branch is both outstanding and extraordinary, and we all take their efforts for granted. We would now like to see all their efforts rewarded and show them that their help and contributions to the branch and the Ulysses Club are greatly appreciated.
